Development of Biomass Based Carbon Anode Materials for Lithium Ion and Sodium Ion Batteries

Lithium ion batteries have become indispensable due to their high energy density and long cycle life, powering a wide range of portable electronics and electric vehicles. However, the continued pursuit of more sustainable and cost effective energy storage has spurred growing interest in s odium ion batteries, which utilize abundant and inexpensive sodium sources while presenting unique electrochemical behaviors arising from sodium’s larger ionic radius. In this presentation , we present a systematic strategy for producing carbon anode materials derived from sustainable biomass sources, tailored for both lithium ion and sodium ion battery applications. By leveraging readily available bio mass es through carbonization or catalytic graphitization processes, we achieved high purity carbo n anode materials with tunable arrangement of carbon atoms crystallinity. Comparative evaluations of the materials in Li and Na based cell configurations reveal suitability and pro mising electrochemical properties . Our findings highlight the potential of biomass based carbons as eco friendly, cost effective alternatives to conventional anodes, thus contributing to more sustainable ener gy storage solutions.
